10 Musicians I Wouldn’t Want to Switch Places With
Arjun from The Good Musician is hosting a fun list post. Here’s my contribution. Check this space soon for links to the other b5music posts.
Living

1. Pete Best - fired from The Beatles right before they hit it huge, this guy did shift work loading bread into delivery vans for £8 a week. Later he became a civil servant. Pete finally made some real money 33 years later when his role on some of the tracks of Anthology netted him upwards of £1 million.

2. Britney Spears - I don’t exactly consider her to be a musician, but it can’t be fun being extremely messed up in an extremely public way.

3. Michael Jackson - hopefully frightening enough to scare away small children.
4. Jose Carreras - while highly successful as one of "The Three Tenors", because of Seinfeld he will always be known as "the other guy".
5. Julian Lennon - John Lennon’s first child from his first wife Cynthia, Julian was neglected while his parents’ marriage fell apart. Later, he would see John’s very public very close relationship with half-brother Sean while John barely maintained any contact with Julian.
"I had a great deal of anger towards Dad because of his negligence and his attitude to peace and love, that peace and love never came home to me." - Julian Lennon
Dead
1. Linda McCartney - she had zero musical talent but Paul thrust her on stage anyway. Oh yeah, and cancer sucks too.
2. Kurt Cobain - just one of many musical geniuses that battled drug and relationship problems and died young. But Kurt also had scoliosis and a chronic stomach condition that gave him intense pain throughout his brief life.

3. Mama Cass Elliot - forever known as "the fat one" from The Mamas & the Papas, she is remembered for dying at the age of 33 of an apparent ham sandwich. That’s just not kosher.

4. Ludwig van Beethoven - going deaf is never good for a musician’s career. He was suicidal, had chronic abdominal pain, and had no luck with women.

5. Elvis Presley - on top of the world in his heyday, he petered off as a complete mess. Overweight, pumped up on drugs, and playing a parody of himself in Las Vegas, he died on the toilet.

Gilan, I’ve gotta agree with these … and add:
JAMES HETFIELD (Metallica): The dude not only was seriously affected by the death of their bass player on the “black ice” years ago, but also went through the pyro that nearly cost him his arm.
This is a great “food-for-thought” write; so often, we (classic rockaholics, former performers, or both) don’t think about how fortunate we are. All it takes is to think what it’d be like if we were in THEIR place … and be thankful we WEREN’T!
