10 One-Hit Wonder Songs I Can’t Get Out of My Rocking Head
Here at B5 Music, we’re doing another list post. These are always fun. This time around the topic is "10 One-Hit Wonder Songs I Can’t Get Out of My Head". You could take this two ways, but I chose to think positively and picked 10 singular hits that I actually like.
Note that the definitions of one-hit wonder vary. Some of these may have been the band’s only hit in the US while they had other hits in Europe, or vice versa. Some of these bands had other "minor" hits, but are only truly remembered for this "major one".
"Tainted Love" by Soft Cell.
Because sometimes even I feel I’ve got to bomp-bomp run away.
"Come On Eileen" by Dexys Midnight Runners.
Always a fun song, with or without the obvious innuendo. One of the top reasons to never name your daughter Eileen.
"Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum.
You gotta love songs by Jews about Jesus. Oh there are so many of them. But this one screams drugged-out 60s to me like no other.
"Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles.
This song was appropriately chosen to be the first music video shown on MTV.
"My Sharona" by the Knack.
Four young Jewish guys write and record a song about one hot Jewish teenage girl. Now Sharona is a real estate agent in LA. Her professional website, http://www.mysharona.com/ features the song that made her famous. I can’t make this stuff up.
"Louie, Louie" by the Kingsmen.
Despite entirely indistinguishable lyrics, or perhaps because of them, this song was investigated by the FBI for profanity. After 31 months of work they reported that they were, "unable to interpret any of the wording on the record."
"Brimful of Asha" by Cornershop.
Simply the coolest Indian song I’ve ever heard.
"Kung Fu Fighting" by Carl Douglas.
Pure silly fun.
"Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor.
Possibly the best part of the movie "Rocky III".
"Get Together" by the Youngbloods.
Always makes me want to smile on my brother.
Hope you enjoyed this. What are your favourite one-hit wonder songs? Share your thoughts in a comment, and check back soon to see what the other kids drew.
