Beatles Single - “Ticket to Ride” / “Yes It Is” (1965)

In February of 1965 The Beatles returned to Abbey Road Studios to record their next hit single. "Ticket to Ride" was primarily a John tune with Paul contributing to the writing as well. Several possible inspirations for the song have been postulated. Some of the more popular ones are:
- a train ticket to the town of Ryde on the Isle of Wight, once claimed by Paul
- a woman "riding out" of the singer’s life
- a phrase, attributed to John, meaning a clean bill of health given to a Hamburg prostitute
The song is musically noteworthy for its complex and heavy rhythm parts and its Indian drone. It ends with a double-time section and a repeated descending lyric "my baby don’t care", a section that John was particularly fond of.
The single was released 9 April 1965 in the UK (three weeks at #1) and ten days later in the US (one week at #1). The B-side was another John tune "Yes It Is". John was not particularly fond of this one, which featured complex three-part vocal harmony and pedal tone guitar. "Ticket to Ride" featured in the album and film "Help!" while "Yes It Is" was never released on a UK album, showing up in the US on "Beatles VI".
