Beatles Songs Might Become Available on Guitar Hero and Rock Band Games
CNET news reports that The Beatles company Apple Corps, and EMI, owner of The Beatles master records, are in discussions to possibly market classic Beatles songs for popular video games. Activision (Guitar Hero) and MTV Games (Rock Band) are both vying for the rights to use Beatles songs in their games, which challenge users to press coloured buttons in rhythm to match a song.
I’ve never played these games and I’m quite happy to play my Beatles songs on my real guitars. I don’t really feel in a position to comment on whether or not this potential licensing is a good or bad idea. What’s your take?

I agree with you on prefering to play Beatles songs on my real guitars, but the fact is, by making these songs available in Rock Band or Guitar Hero, a whole new generation of listeners (who might not otherwise be exposed to Beatles music) will be created. Look at what these games have already done for classic tunes from the Stones, Aerosmith, Mountain, etc. A great opportunity to grow the Beatles (already significant) fan base!!! Now, if only we could get them to re-release all the albums on Vinyl with the original cover art…..
