This video takes a look at the bitter rivalry between John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The constant attempts to outdo eachother made for some great songwriting, but it ultimately tore The Beatles apart.

Competition is a two-edged sword. It motivates us to do better, to achieve more, and to work harder. But it also, unchecked, brings on petty jealousies, unhappy envying, and bitter strife. Too bad Lennon and McCartney were not able to harness the better side and revel in each other’s successes and in the band’s glory days, instead of playing one-upmanship until in the end it left a wedge between them. But, of course, one-upmanship is quite human.
