Pete Townshend of The Who Pays Tribute to Beatles Road Manager Neil Aspinall
As I reported last month, close Beatles associate Neil Aspinall died of lung cancer on 24 March. He was buried yesterday in Twickenham, England. According to contactmusic.com, famous funeral attendees included John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono, their son Julian Lennon, James and Stella McCartney (two of Paul McCartney’s children), Ringo Starr’s wife Barbara Bach, Beatles producer Sir George Martin, and original Beatles drummer Pete Best.
Pete Townshend, the guitarist of The Who, played two of Aspinall’s favourite songs in tribute: Bob Dylan’s Mr. Tambourine Man, and George Harrison’s My Sweet Lord.
Listen to George Harrison play My Sweet Lord in the 1972 Concert For Bangladesh right here, thanks to Songza.

My Sweet Lord is such a simple song that remains timeless! It was a nice gesture from Pete Townsend

Yes. Very sweet of Pete Townshend. I wonder why neither Paul McCartney nor Ringo Starr showed up. Does anybody have a scoop?
