Single - “She Loves You” / “I’ll Get You” (1963)

After two huge UK hit singles and a #1 UK album, The Beatles were a sensation at home, but had yet to make a major impression in the most lucrative music market in the world: the US. On 1 July 1963, they returned to the studio to record yet another John/Paul collaboration. "She Loves You" was written in a hotel in Newcastle while the band was on tour with Roy Orbison and Gerry and the Pacemakers.
"We’d written the song, and then suddenly realized we needed more… so we added ‘yeah, yeah, yeah’ and it caught on." - John
The song ends with a major sixth chord. When George Martin first heard it, he thought it was absurd. But despite his insistance that it was corny and cliché, the band insisted that the chord not be removed.
Released on 23 August 1963, the single destroyed many records in British music. It very quickly became the UK’s best-selling single of all time; a record it held for 14 years. George Martin was furious with Capitol Records, which still refused to market The Beatles music in the US. After little success with Vee-Jay Records, the band tried another small US label, Swan Records. When they released the US single on 16 September, it got no attention. Three months later, "She Loves You" would become a late smash success after a breakthrough with "I Want to Hold Your Hand".
"She Loves You" and "I Want to Hold Your Hand" hold the distinction of being the only songs of which The Beatles ever recorded a version in another language. The German division of EMI convinced George Martin that the only way they’d sell big in Germany was if they recorded in German. The band hated the idea, but Martin insisted, and "Sie Liebt Dich" was born, to be followed by "Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand".
The B-side of "She Loves You" was "I’ll Get You", a John tune. "I’ll Get You" is unique for two reasons. Most of the vocals are John and Paul singing in unison rather than harmony. There is basically no lead guitar, with both guitars playing rhythm for most of the song.
