The Merry Wives of The Beatles

There were four main members of The Beatles. Two are dead and two are lefthanded (and never the twain shall meet). But two things they all have in common is having been married twice and divorced once.
John married Cynthia Lillian Powell in 1962 and they divorced in 1968. Cynthia was a 23 year old art student when John impregnated and later married her. Theirs was not a happy marriage. John was often away, admitted to cheating on her several times, and was accused of physically abusing her. They had one child, Julian. John later married the far more famous Yoko Ono, with whom he was having an affair. John and Yoko remained married until his murder in 1980.
Paul married Linda Louise Eastman in 1969 and they remained together happily (to all appearances) until she died of breast cancer in 1998. Linda was famous for her photography and animal rights activism, as well as for joining Paul in his post-Beatles band Wings. They had four children. Paul married model and land mines activist Heather Mills in 2002, a woman barely more than half his age. The marriage lasted only four years and produced one child and a messy divorce.
George married model Pattie Boyd in 1966, but she left him for his good friend Eric Clapton (who wrote “Layla” for her when she was still married to George). They divorced in 1970. He married Olivia Trinidad Arias in 1978, who gave him his only child, Dhani. They remained together until George’s death of lung cancer in 2001.
Ringo married 18-year-old Maureen Cox in 1965. Their marriage produced three children and lasted 10 tumultuous years before infidelity and alcoholism finally led to divorce. In 1981 Ringo married American actress, model and “Bond girl” Barbara Bach. Theirs is the only Beatles marriage that is still together.
So there you have it. Four Beatles, eight marriages, four divorces and four young deaths (Maureen Cox died in 1994).
